Kubra Sait gets badly trolled for supporting Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Her support came after former Miss India and actress Niharika Singh took to Twitter her confession. She did it via Sandhya Menon , a journalist and a Metoo campaigner on Twitter.
While talking to News Agency IANS Kubra Sait said;
“But I don’t care about those who want me to say what they want to hear. Why should I not stand by Nawaz just because he is a man? Do men always have to be in the wrong? It may be the politically correct thing to demolish the reputation of a man accused by a woman. But where is the proof?”
In her eleven pages long ordeal Niharika Singh wrote how she ended up getting abused by Nawazuddin Siddiqui whom she called a sexually suppressed man.
Soon after her statement went viral; Kubra Sait the transgender partner of Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Sacred Games came for his rescue. According to her a relationship gone wrong cannot be labeled as #metoo.
Tweets that landed her in trouble
now let u see why kubra sait gets badly trolled.
“A relationship gone sour, isn’t #MeToo someone needs to recognise the toxic difference before we go picking sides
I stand by #NawazuddinSiddiqui or #Nowaz as a man.”
She further said in her tweet;
“I stand by the fact that although Niharika Singh may have had a tough time in the industry, categorising her once personal relationship as a #MeToo statement is incorrectly placed. We as humans are flawed. That isn’t gender specific”
Trolls that followed
“You may be right or wrong. However, it’s an observation that celebrities is India tend to take stand not for the cause but based on their career. If its affects them negatively, they won’t speak against a person, some rather go to extent of defending to prove their loyalty.”
“Stop embarrassing yourself, Kubra. Her #MeToo statement was regarding Nawaz and his lascivious attitude towards her despite being married and after him attaining fame. Earning money from your profession is imperative and fine but don’t sell your soul for it.”
Some of the savage tweets called her someone who cared only about her pocket, bank balance and career.
Bear in mind Niharika Singh worked along Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Miss Lovely and that is where the relationship started. According to her Nawazuddin Siddiqui once came to her house where she invited him for breakfast. This is where things escalated into a year and a half long relationship.
Niharika Singh later ended the relationship after finding out his flings and even a marriage to a woman living somewhere in Haldwani. After her breakup she said;
“He tried to re-engage me sexually, begging me to be with him but I refused, saying I was happy to be his friend and nothing else.”
Metoo movement in Pakistan and India
The example of Kubra Sait taking back of Nawazzuddin Siddiqui is not a new thing. Few months back when Meesha Shafi held Ali Zafar responsible for harassment actresses like Maya Ali and Nadia Jamil supported Ali zafar.
This colleague support adds to the agony of the survivors. However social media is a free place. Anyone can come and vent out their frustration be it tarnishing a reputation.
Where it has helped victims speak about their struggles it has equally allowed miscreants to publish irresponsible stories and tweets.
What people need to do?
However this time people are not happy with her tweets. Women don’t walk around carrying camera to record harassment so obviously they don’t have proofs except their own words. In a misogynist society a woman speaking about her abuse is already broken to the core and she fully understands the media trial that will follow.
This is when she needs the support of the people especially of her own gender who no doubt is very much aware of what harassment is and how it feels to be a victim.
So Kubra Sait don’t waste your words on protecting a predator. Let the legal battle ensue before taking sides.
