Fruits are something you should start to eat in the first trimester of pregnancy. The leafy green fresh vegetables are filled with nutrients, omega 3s and iron reservoirs. They not only repair the body and help your outer skin but also are very useful for the growing baby.

In vegetables, carrots, sweet potatoes and cabbage are great. Do not fry the potatoes as that will only make it lose its nutritional value. Carrots are a great source of vitamin A.


You need to include lean proteins into your diet which include eggs, meat, milk and nuts. Proteins help the growth of your baby. Meat helps provide iron to your body which in turns raises haemoglobin level and increase red blood cell production. It also fastens the process of delivering oxygen to each and every cell in the body thereby relieving the feeling of fatigue and extreme depression hence meat is very important to eat in first month of pregnancy. Eggs are also one of the most important proteins. They contain abundant vitamins and a choline. Choline is necessary for the development of baby’s brain and spinal cord and prevents neural tube defects.

Whole grains

Whole grains are a great source of energy and Vitamin B. During pregnancy women tend to get constipated, whole grains contain fibres that help you with constipation. Beans, Brown rice, pasta and oatmeal are some of the foods you need to include in your diet as they contain vitamin E and selenium, required to repair the body and help release get rid of harmful toxins in the body.

Dairy Products

Dairy products are the best way to obtain calcium and vitamin D. Calcium strengthens bones and vitamin D helps the absorption of calcium so both are equally important. Dairy products are one of the most important foods to eat during pregnancy as they are required by the growing and developing baby in ample amount. Take yogurt and milk on regular basis.

Salmon and other fish

Salmon is a well known, important and natural source of Omega 3 fatty acids that help during organ development and the repair of DNA. Not that it is healthy but also known to kick start your endorphins and increase your mood. It is low in mercury content so it will be safe for use.
